New charging method could greatly reduce battery recharge ti

Physorg.com -- Part of the headache of having to constantly recharge batteries is not just how often they need to be charged, but also the time it takes to charge them. In a new study, researchers have proposed a charging method that could greatly reduce the charging time of lithium-ion batteries, which are used in everything from electronic devices to electric vehicles. The new method uses an additional oscillating electric field (besides the charging field) that should be capable of charging a lithium-ion battery in a fraction of the time compared with traditional methods......

I was tempted to say that one of the biggest problems here is that our cars are not designed to be submerged so they can use the batteries. But I won't. Nope. Not gonna do that.

It's always a good idea not to call someone an idiot until you're sure you're not one yourself.

Modern hybrids use their engines and their brakes to charge the batteries. Batteries that charge more efficiently will reduce gas consumption because the engine won't have the extra load of charging the batteries as long. Electric cars will be ready for service more quickly and will likely have greater range. Apparently, advances are being made in both density (energy capacity) and charging efficiency moving us closer to practical electric cars. What are we missing here, COBRALEADER?

Technology is moving fast, especially for batteries, that will make EVs useful in this decade so that we can wean ourselves from polluting and carbon-filled oil.

Huh! What? Sounds a little technical but if it works in real life without a catch it sounds great.

If the time to recharge a battery was reduced by 50% that would be great. But I can still see a problem, if whatever it is can't be used during the charging mode how long can you wait? I would prefer a replaceable battery pack, which gives you the option of replacing the battery pack while an additional battery pack was being recharged. Then the time factor becomes less of a problem.

Just think, drive in to Macs, grab a coffee and drive away with a added 35 minute drive time charge. Got it while you were waiting in line, right from the ground rails in the Macs drive thru!
